  1. We're having the same conversation on 2 boards I pretty much answered it on the other one - we did tests they came back fine - the film was brand new, the camera was serviced no one had ever heard of jitter, we thought we'd be right - we saw no reason to turn the spindle. Perhaps we should have. Even if we had though why work in a medium where you have to vet brand new stock first to see if it is okay - I'd rather work in a medium where you don't have to do that - there's enough to worry about when you're making a feature with out having to worry about re-ordering etc. I blame Kodak because they studied it and concluded it was their fault. Scot
  2. It's not the camera because we found after a while we could recognise the sound of the weird carts and we'd pull them out and put another in and it would be fine - why would a freshly serviced camera run one cart badly and the next fine? Kodak analysed the film and agreed it wasn't the camera as well. If you've never had this jitter problem good luck to you - I hope your luck continues. About advancing the film - it would have been good to try it - we did actually on one that jammed altogether and it made no difference - couldn't unjam it -- but anyway I just don't want to take the risk and something this risky. We didn't try it on one that sounded weird but was not jammed. I agree with John more samples being sent it would be productive - but for me from people's reports the problem still occurs and I don't want to be the one bitten by it again Scot
  3. I've decided I'm going to all but get out of Super 8 - Kodak's apathy toward fixing the cart problem has convinced me of it's uselessness for serious work - so hence I'm giving it away to cocerntrate on 16mm. I've just put my crystal synched 4008 on eBay -- I'll probably shoot a bit of 64t with a nice Chinon I've got - but I'm going to get rid of everything else over the next few weeks. It's a shame because I was planning to do another feature late next year on Super 8 - it'll either be video or 16mm now -- hopefully 16 - but it would have suited Super 8 really well - but what can you do - I got really badly burnt by the faulty carts last time and even though Kodak admitted to the problem then they now seem to be denying it - despite being given numerous samples etc. Scot
  4. This is a bit mad because I've actually seen BandW Super 8 in Photocontinental - a year or two back though - if you try them again you might get someone who knows what they're talking about. Scot
  5. I've finally got it worked out and tested in the US so my feature In My Image is now available on NTSC DVD (it has been on PAL for quite a while). The disc features the movie (1 hours 32 minutes) and a making of discussion (37 minutes) and also the complete web site as a bonus DVD ROM freebie. The selling price is $30 Australian (which includes the postage and packaging). I'm accepting Paypal but other methods are possible. If you're interested see http://www.mango-a-gogo.com/inmyimage/imsales.htm The film was shot on K40 Super 8 :-) Scot
  6. Some of you may remember my short Sleeping On Her Couch from 2 years ago. I was never entirely statisfied with the result so have been going back over it in the last few months and improving and changing things - the result is alot better I think and is here: http://www.mango-a-gogo.com/show/sohc.wmv From the films web site these are the changes I made - the film is all 16mm 250D btw Scot
  7. Try: Beaulieu Sweden bjorn.andersson@brevet.nu or The Film Group http://users.aol.com/fmgp/sync8.htm also Milan Smetak at Beaulieu Cinema Services, Australia Scot
  8. I've seen Super 8 on a tv screen which looked alot like 16mm - check some stills from my film http://www.mango-a-gogo.com/inmyimage/making.htm If you want to do anything serious I wouldn't suggest Super 8 though because of the faulty cartridges which Kodak have admitted to but still refuse to fully correct - see http://www.filmshooting.com./scripts/forum...pic.php?t=10732 The best option for someting serious but cheap is probably 16mm - if you want widescreen see this thread http://www.filmshooting.com./scripts/forum...pic.php?t=10972 Scot
  9. What kind of daylight filter are you going to use for the outdoor shots? Scot
  10. Try this thread and this one too - but watch all the guff in the first one! Scot

  12. Yes around Brisbane in fact Scot
  13. Yeah it's cinelook - but you'd have to ask the dop for more info - I'll pass this link on to him - I'm the writer/director/actor Scot
  14. Here's some still from my new short: here's our foreground miniature: As most of you may know this started on 16mm and then for a number of reasons we switched to HDV which has gone pretty well. I am thinking of doing some time lapse shots of the bush with 16mm - any advice of getting these to cut well with the HDV? ie smaller exposure lattitude and resolution etc? Anwyay there's a whole lot of info here http://www.mango-a-gogo.com/hold/prod.htm and more stills at http://www.mango-a-gogo.com/hold/stills2.htm Scot

  16. Yeah but barely making a pofit isn't the same as making an outright loss - if Kodak use their digital arm to prop up their Super 8 arm - too cool I reckon - and in reality that may be the only way Super8 ends up remaining manufactured (save whatever the hobbyists can produce from time to time). It'd be better if it remains profitable in it's won right (it's longevity would be more ensured) but if it has to be done this way I don't care. Scot
  17. I think you've got good logic Allesandro - you just need to make sure that Kodak will funnel some of the proceeds into it's film division - they clearly cut K40 because it wasn't holding it's own - though if push came to shove and they could afford it you'd have to think they would prop up their film business with digital sales if they had to (I hope they do - film is fun!) Scot
  18. As admirable as it is - I wouldn't buy them just because Kodak made them - I'd do a bit of research and and only buy the most reliable brand. There's a big difference in reliability and playability between the best and worst blank dvd's on the market. I'm not saying Kodak's are bad or good - you'd like to think having a big name Kodak's would be good (and hopefully they are) but the name alone won't necessarily guarantee it - there are only a handful of blank dvd manufacturers worldwide and alot of companies just buy them from these manufacturers and rebrand them as their own. It would pay to do some research - in Australia there was a review a while ago about this by PC User magazine and TDK and Maxell came out on top - Laser was one of the worst - no mention of Kodak from memory as (I think) they only looked at the ones straight from the manufacturer - not from resellers who had rebranded them. Can anyone confirm/clarify this is what Kodak do - and if so which manufacturer do they use and how good are they? Scot
  19. Hi Rick just wondering what kind of projection are they doing - and how big is the screen? Congrats too :-) Scot
  20. Ditto for me too - this is just what Ineed to test out my cantankerous R16 and highly suspect magazines :-) Scot
  21. I think I've finally got it worked out sucessfully - I've done an ntsc dvd which has the film (1hr 30 mins) and the making of (37 mins) on it -- it plays fine for me - but I'm going to send it over to the US for testing on an ntsc native tv just to be sure. The disc will probably have the web page on it as a dvd-rom extra too. The sale price will be just a little less than the pal version as it won't have the deleted scenes etc on it. As soon as it all checks out I'll put it up for sale icon_smile.gif Scot _________________ In My Image Super 8 Feature Film www.mango-a-gogo.com
  22. This is interesting because Bjorn Anderson has said repeatedly on the R16 forum that it is extremely problematic to do this on the R16 -- perhaps this is why it costs so much for the Pro 8 version see http://p205.ezboard.com/fbeaulieur16usersf...opicID=83.topic
  23. Hi Rick I kind of am and I kind of aren't - it's permanently on sale on my web site and I put it on eBay every now and again, however I'm not actively pushing it anywhere - however I reckon (just yesterday) that I've woked out how to get the ntsc version done so I will be pushing that in a week or so - I've sold about 50 PAL orders (and given away about 20 complimentary copies to press/crew etc) but I reckon there should be about 50 NTSC sales I can make in the course of the year. This will all help but won't recoup the budget - but that doesn't really worry me I've kind of accepted that. The project has helped propel me to professional work both as an actor and a 1st AD so it's kind of paying for itself in other ways. I think it could actually pay for itself out right if I go on and make other more sucessful films and people want to look back though the back catalogue and that way the sales will go up. So one day sure. I doubt I'll ever do another feature on Super 8 again - I may do - I like the texture of it - and particulalry liked that in Sleep Always - but it's just not economically viable for me at the moment - I'm concerntrating on 16mm at the moment. I can get that developed and telecined locally and hopefully one day I could a get a distribution deal which could put a film in a cinema which is my big aim/hope -- all of these things are quite hard with Super 8 and why I want to avoid it. However the feel really suits some stories which is why it would be good to do another feature in Super 8, but not until I had the money or the economic set up/backing to handle the limited distribution options with it (ie DVD release!). The idea of putting a package deal in to a distributor too is interesting - I'd be in that. Scot
  24. Hey Rick - just wondering what you're up to now? - anymore SD8 featrues in the pipeline? Scot
  25. You could probably start by killing all that horrible unecessary exposure lattitude ;-) Scot
