Yeah, I'll have to do the double-dip on "Sin City." Thus far I've shipped all of my double-dips back home to my folks for they're enjoyment. "Sin City" might send them into shock, but I don't care. "PI" also has a great documentary. Almost any film that has a "real" behind the scenes documentary makes my day. I hate. Hate! HATE!!! studio press junk that comes with 90% of the contemporary big budget releases. i don't even bother. Oh! The director's cut of "Amadeus" is a real gem. Great retrospective documentary. One of the few director's cuts that really adds to the film. Speaking of disasterous "Director's Cuts," The "Exoricist" was such a great film. I though the original ending was very haunting... if you interpreted the way I did. The way I saw it is that you're left with a wide shot of the lone priest framed with the house against the backdrop of Washington DC. Cars are crossing the bridge, totally removed from the supernatural horrors that had just occured there. Fade to Black. Bring up Music. Very atmospheric. I was appalled with the new ending. Then they desecrated the "spider walk" scene (that was originally cut) by adding digital "shock" value to the scene by having Regan vomiting blood. That's what passes for horror in modern Hollywood. The original Spider Walk scene had Regan following her nanny around, licking her leg. It sounds creepy, but looks kind of silly. That's probably why it was cut out. Just a side note: After the demon is expelled from Regan, wouldn't she be dead? At least paralyzed with a broken neck. I don't know.

... why would they put out Michael Bay crap? Someone please help me understand.

That site is amazing. It's really incredible to see early America (1900's that is) in a medium tha tmost are use to seeing only in B&W. I often try to imagine what a period B&W setting would look like if I could travel back in time. I guess for now this is about as close to fantasy as you can get.

I have a large collection of autochromes. I'd love to find a way to capture that "look" cinematically. I'm sure there's a plugin filter floating around out there that you could apply in Photoshop or FCP.

Just watched "One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest." Great making of Documentary. "North Fork" has a good doc too. (James Wood's classic comeback about his nextdoor neighbor's soft manhood is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.) I don't know, but LOTR's triology is almost overkill for me. Too much of a good thing. You'd have to unemployed to get through everything. "Eraserhead" has great extra's and top notch transfer. I love behind the scenes shorts that describe the technical aspects of of a dvd. "Se7ven" is a great example of technical info. Making the transfer from the original neg is quite inspiring. Most of Herzog's films from Anchor Bay are great. I don't know, but I think "Aguirre" should be anamorphic widescreen. Watching a deserved widescreen fim Full frame on my beloved 36" Sony HDTV tube TV sucks. I love the "Shining" DVD, especially the making of Doc, but... see above. I know i'm leaving some greats out. What classic films deserve a great DVD presentation? "2001." "Thin Red Line." <- old (by DVD standards) release. "Apocolypse Now" should have a steller DVD release... not the Redux. What the hell was he thinking?
