I have two lights with bulbs that need replacing, but these are halogen lights that kind of intimidate me still. One of the lights is a PBL MXLIGHT with two long skinny halogen bulbs, The other is a Britek. I took the bulb out of the Britek and it says "500 watt 120 volt" on the side, but no brand name. So two questions: Will any halogen with the correct watts and voltage work with a halogen light And: If i use a lower voltage and wattage, will it work but not be as bright? I don't want anything to explode in my face here. I found the website 1000 bulbs but I don't want t
Hi, I'm looking to shoot a night interior scene and had a few questions about practical bulbs. 1. Is there a specific brand of bulbs that will work best? Or you can recommend? 2. Whats an ideal wattage for the bulb? 2. Do frosted bulbs work better? 4. Do I have to worry about tungsten bulbs flickering? 5. Is a dimmer necessary? Thanks!
Hey everyone. The other day I was testing out different bulbs in my 1K fresnel to see how wattage correlates to output (switching from 750 to 1K only resulted in 1/3 stop difference, which I found really surprising). I did something stupid though: since I only had my light on for a few seconds to take a quick light meter reading, I thought that the lamp probably wasn't that hot, and waited far less time than I normally would for it to cool down. Basically, I touched the bulb with the gloves I happened to be wearing at the time (which aren't real proper leather electrician gloves but r
I'm planning to shoot an extended fight scene in a hotel room. Not a fancy hotel, think Days Inn. We will be shooting very quickly and I want 360 degrees of camera movement, with no apparent lights in frame. I'd like to shoot the whole scene at one f-stop, being able to move actors in and out of light and shadow as need be. Maybe f4, so focus isn't a huge pain. I'm shooting on a GH3. These are the two options I came up with… 1) swap practical lamp bulbs for 100W or 200W bulbs. or... 2) put a 1K on the balcony and light room through slats in blinds. swap practical bulbs for
