Rokinon AS vs DS 35mm Sony E mount
Daniel D. Teoli Jr. posted a topic in General DiscussionHas anyone compared the 2 lenses (AS vs DS) in actual shoots? Here is the specs for the new lens. CINE DS 35mm T1.5 Lens For Sony E-Mount The new Rokinon Cine DS 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens is one of Rokinon's newly introduced 2nd generation of cine lenses under its CINE DS line. The Rokinon Cine DS lineup has 3 primary advantages: 1) All of the gears are unified among all Rokinon Cine DS lenses. The focus and aperture gears are exactly aligned so that the user does not have to re-adjust his/her follow focus when swapping out lenses. 2) The new Cine DS lenses now feature dual focusing scales, one on each side. 3) All of the Cine DS lenses are tested to be color matched to provide the same color & contrast in video production. What interested me was the color contrast matching. Have you found this an issue with lens swaps when the lenses are from the same maker? I'm also interested in lens IQ. Is there a difference in sharpness between the 2 lenses? Thanks
Kowa Prominar MFT Lenses
Brett Allbritton posted a topic in Lenses & Lens AccessoriesHey everybody, I'm considering investing in a 12mm cine lens for my BMPCC and while browsing I've come across the Kowa Prominar Micro Four Thirds lenses. They don't have geared focus rings, but do feature both F-stops and T-stops interestingly enough. Does anybody have experience with these lenses? All the footage and photos I've seen from them are quite lovely, but would they really be worth the extra money I might spend on them versus, say, a Rokinon or SLR Magic cine lens?
FS: Rokinon 24mm F3.5 Tilt Shift Lens
Ryan Gibb posted a topic in Cine MarketplaceThis lens is pretty much in brand new condition. It has never been taken into the field and only been used around my house for test shoots. The lens is Canon Ef mount. In the middle of a personal project and just trying to liquidate as much gear as possible to help pay for bills. This lens retails for $800 PM me with any questions.
Why do people pick different lenses?
Gerald King posted a topic in Camera OperatingIs it mostly based of preference? The one's I know by name are Canon, Sony, Zeiss, Cooke's, Leica's, Sigma's, Panavision, Arri and Rokinon. I like the Zeiss super speeds because the smoothness of the gears whenever on I'm on a follow-focus rig. Also the sigma's quality I really love. Rokinon's are pretty decent for their price when you need to get something like a knock-off zeiss, I've heard people say. I own two Roks, really are impressed with them. So all in all, does it comes down to preference/price? or are there more factors?
Hi guys, Selling off my set of four Rokinon Nikon-Mount lenses as I simply never use them (literally none of these lenses have been on the camera more than two or three times each). For a cheap and cheerful set of fully-manual primes, I think they do quite well. But as I'm nearly always working with Assistants, and I'm arguably far-too kind to them - my Zeiss CZ.2s stay on the camera, so these have to go! :p Looking for a quick sale, so selling for 40% off what I paid for them retail. Price is $1,245 USD / $1,665 AUD (plus GST if purchased in Australia) Located in Melbourne, but happy to ship worldwide. Cheers, Mark

New Reel Critique
Alex Fuerst posted a topic in Please Critique My WorkHello fellow cinematographers and film makers! If I could borrow 3,750 frames at 24fps of your time to review my new reel. It would mean a great deal to me if you could offer some critique afterward. I'm in the middle of a huge push to take my work and career to greater quality and new opportunities. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I would be happy to return the favor. Thank you and happy shooting! Alex www.alexfuerst.com
