  1. Hi all, I thought you might like to know all about the new and VERY rare LEITZ PRIMES from Leica/Leitz! They're spherical cine lenses and produce incredible, vintage-like rainbow flares. Leitz claim the Leitz Primes are ‘the best of the best’. As Shift 4 are the only UK rental company stocking this state-of-the-art lens set, they invited some of the UK’s most talented Cinematographers, DoPs, Focus Pullers and Camera Operators to a lens test and also shot a short film to investigate the Leitz claim. Then they wrote an article all about them. Read the full article here - it includes downloadable 6K RAW files, which I thought you might be interested in so you can make your own assessment on them! Suitable for high-end productions, you may have already seen the Leitz Primes in action. Seamus McGarvey BSC ASC ISC shot Cyrano (2021), awarding him a nomination at the BSC Awards for Best Cinematography in a Theatrical Feature; Balazs Bolygo BSC HSC used them on the Netflix series Anatomy of a Scandal (2022) and Tony Miller BSC shot the highly anticipated Mr. Malcolm’s List (2022) with the Leitz Primes, which is coming to screens in July 2022. The Leitz Primes are full frame, fast and spherical lenses, designed from the ground up and are very different to other Leitz lenses. Shift 4 have a set of 12 focal lengths available (ranging from 18mm-180mm) and sought to offer the community a varied and professional review of their capabilities. Get your RAW footage HERE!
  2. Hi everybody, I have a question related to the film To the Wonder by Terrence Malick. In an interview for the American Cinematographer magazine, director of photography Emmanuel Lubezki says that for “To the Wonder we did some tests and decided on the compromise of going 2.35 but shooting spherical— partly because I really, really love the sharp, clean Master Primes. We also went with spherical because we were shooting in a lot of houses.” Since Lubezki speaks about the 'compromise' of going 2.35 but shooting spherical, my question is: does that mean that they shot super 35 and then cropped the image, therefore loosing some part of the original frame? Thanks!
  3. I am selling part of my private lens collection. these are spherical lens T2,2 made in Soviet union. Typically warm, with very nice warm flers. I love older lens against new MP, UP. When I use MP or UP with Alexa or RED, it is so technical and clean. These older lens produce so nice texture, organic look. Even I mostly have budget for Masterprimes or Ultraprimes, I go very often with Lomos, spherical or anamorphic. 18mm T3,1 OKC5-18-1 ser. 860132 28mm T2,2 OKC7-28-1 ser. 800119 35mm T2,2 OKC11-35-1 ser. 820375 75mm T2,2 OKC6-75-1 ser. 890150 Focus ring on 75mm can be changed to black by Elox process. even the housing is different style, the picture look is the same. Russians just made different housings in different years... Fantastic lens in very good condition. More pictures in better quality http://picsurge.com/g/E51PV8 Price 4750 USD (or euro equivalent) +shipping 100USD. Shipping worldwide. Located in Prague. You get great value for very good price. I can manage 50mm and 22mm to make big set.
