I'd think you'd want to be long lens on the closeups, as opposed to wide. If you're wide, everything'll be in focus, and more importantly, you'll have pretty severe distortion (barrel distortion, is it?) Moving back and zooming in will reduce your depth of field, and flatten out the perspective (which is what I ASSUME you want).
