boogie nights 16mm clips

Hello,

In boogie nights when they show the footage that is supposed to be the actual film they are making, like the scene with julianne moore and dirk diggler and a desk. I am assuming this is 16mm, does anyone know anymore details about what they did to get that look? It is quite warm coloured and washed out and soft.

Thanks,

Oscar.

The reasons I think it is 16mm are that the cameras they showed in the film were 16mm cameras, there are also those shots of 16mm film winding inside the camera. The porn films of the 70s that it was based on were shot on 16mm. The image looks so much softer and has much less detail than 35 normally has.

I think that it may be shot on reversal film, processed normally, that was then transferred to negative. In the film you can see they have a few soft lights. I think they must have used a filter on either the lights or the lens, i'm no expert, i'm just trying to think how i would do it. Oh and maybe they overexposed a bit?

What do you think?
