Joe Fugallo Share Posted June 14, 2011 Hello, I am shooting a dubstep music video and I plan on having a majority of my lights (Source fours) to be on flicker masters and dimmers and I am shooting on a RED one build 30 (not the MX sensor). I was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding rolling shutter with the Red camera's CMOS sensor. I don't know how fast I can flash the lights without getting rolling shutter artifacts in my image. Just wondering if there is anyone out there that could give any incite. Thank you for reading and any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated! -Joe
Vincent Sweeney Sustaining Member Share Posted June 14, 2011 I don't think it's even possible to flicker or flash a tungsten source fast enough to see a rolling shutter effect; the cool-down and warming times are too slow. All CMOS have the issues but I can only get it to happen with camera-type flashes and sometimes with gun fire.
Joe Fugallo Author Share Posted June 14, 2011 Okay thank you very much Vincent! I had a feeling that was the case but I just wanted some supporting feedback
John Sprung Sustaining Member Share Posted June 17, 2011 Test it with your smallest incandescent, as they'll heat and cool the fastest. Running them up and down quickly on dimmers will definitely be slow enough. -- J.S.
