  1. Lots of people are getting really tired of negative shi* you two f**ks keep spewing out. Too bad that only people working in film or genuine students of film-making aren't the only ones that post here. No wonder this whole forum is fading out. The real DP's and occasional director here rarely ever bother to post. Why is that, I wonder? Taking a long break, again... (and likely buying an F55 for actual use when it comes out)
  2. http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/show-highend/ Lots of needed features that no one has ever offered before now. Finally. PDF's: http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/files/show/highend/pdf/F5_Camera.pdf http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/files/show/highend/pdf/F55_Camera.pdf
  3. Like "Meek's Cutoff", most people will see it as distracting and pretentious to go under 16:9 for modern productions, outside of some special venue. You aren't gaining anything with black bars on the sides, if you think about it. It will likely annoy the general viewer, especially on a personal screen, TV, etc. which is what everyone must face as being the most likely, or usually only way anyone will see the work. If distributed, you will find some big issues with quality control people and face a good chance that someone would zoom in to "fix" it.

  5. Coming from someone who sold their Aaton a couple years ago, you will have to drop that way down if you want to move it. I also saw a well advertised and perfect Prod sell for $4000 after being on the market for 4 months; and that was 9 months ago.

  7. It's high-school level production-value at best and shouldn't qualify as any kind of "official" narrative product, no more than a student film posted to youtube should. IMDB tries (or used to try harder at it) to keep the films that it lists connected to legitimate film festivals and actual releases. Freedom of speech is something that only certain countries have in place. The US is one, generally, so there can't be any crime here no matter how the simpleton hordes act because of it, or how many people die because of others' actions. I would bet that most of the rioters have not even seen it. Street thugs and the generally ignorant segments of populations are often the ones most seen in the media. I'll share a quote I got on email this morning from a friend of mine who is from and living in Egypt: "No brains anywhere and all is left to the gangs to destroy every thing. No one respecting a damn thing.... Educated people lost the battle to the ignorant.".
  8. He's one of the few true masters working today. The best need the best in acquisition. How long will it be before digital cameras can render color as well?

  10. Hopefully you can see this as I did in 4K projection, or 70mm. Amazing piece of work. I asked them if they will do another film. The response was "..very possible... but we need some rest." Ron is a 65mm only guy, but may go digital if it's improved enough by the next one. http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/10/3274041/samsara-ron-fricke-mark-magidson-review-70mm
  11. What you simply need to do is hire on an experienced (with film too) DP who knows all of this already. You'll need to pay him something but you will not make it without that step.
  12. If so, can you PM me? We can talk about it in this thread if you prefer as well. I'm looking for real world experience (esp. with the Penelope) and need a blunt review on practicality/reliability, hairs, etc. concerning it's use on a feature.
  13. What would it cost to ship that Canon 814 to me in the USA? Zip code 91320. Have you shipped here often? By the way, I just shot a music video for "The Moog" who is from Budapest and moved here to Los Angeles this year.

  14. Full kit in like-new condition. This was Nizo's top camera and is likely the quietest S8 camera ever. It is belt driven instead of gear driven which is why they are so quiet. I have a rare wide angle lens adapter (Nizo type III) that IS NOT included. I will sell it for an additional $175. Very clean. This looks to have been barely used. I bought it for a project but ended up using a different system. I was going to send it to DuAll for a full service but didn't due to not using it. A quick check with new batteries and it sounds perfect. Once when I let off the trigger it kept running for a couple seconds... it may just need to be run a while. The pull-down claw looks perfect and the lens looks new. The whole kit looks almost show-room new. Even the mic is in the kit, though it has a bad wire, not that anyone is going to use it anyway. Everything is very clean and this was obviously stored in a dry, clean place for many years without use. I'm asking what I paid, $375. Sold as-is! This is a 30+ year old camera. Like with all S8 cams, you need to have it serviced first. My other Nizo works perfect because I spent $100 having it lubed and checked out first. Please excuse the pics, they are from a cheap phone camera.
  15. Saw it at Univ. City in LA in IMAX. The compared softness of the 35mm was a mild distraction after many transitions. It seemed softer than 3-perf and 1080 blow-ups that I've seen before, for some reason. Another distraction, without a doubt, was the panning of IMAX cameras when doing land/cityscape shots. There were only a few, but they stuck out to me. If you are going to show off its incredible resolution on a 70+ft screen, don't do shots like that which strobe like hell; your eye starts looking for details but 24fps pans don't let you focus on them. Great piece of work overall though, don't get me wrong.
  16. One last shameless plug: Amazon DVD link (with composer and director commentary) http://amzn.com/B008LJVQTG

  18. Didn't take long to alienate yourself completely by being a little condescending prick. Though you are a kid and it takes a long time to learn what not to do.
  19. Entertaining film. Flawless FX work. 3D did enhance it without a doubt. (watched on a well tuned digital Christie system)
  20. DSLR's don't compete at all. You deal with endless work-arounds and endless problems that do nothing but get in the way of actually making something.
  21. Special screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse Thursday June 7th and Sat. June 9th with Q&A afterward. This will start our (very limited) theater tour. After that, we will be at the historic Grandin Theater in Roanoke Va. June 14th. DVD with composer and dir. commentary will be on Amazon.com at the end of June.

  23. Fascinating how IMDB ratings start going down radically just because the trailer shows up publicly. You'd think people would at least watch a film before voting on it. What a system!
  24. We are premiering at one of the top rated theaters in the US in June, the Alamo Drafthouse (the newer one in Virginia) Other theatrical shows will be very limited but will soon be available Amazon.com (DVD too), iTunes and Vudu, etc. Updates to come later. iTunes trailer link: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/blueridge/ Better to watch the 720p or 1080 version.
