M Joel W
I am looking for a 50mm f1.4 in F mount that focuses the same as Zeiss cinema lenses. Does such a thing exist? Even third-party lenses seem to focus in the "Nikon direction" when in F mount. Thanks.
Eric Eader
M, In the late 1960's and early 1970's Vivitar made lenses with "T Mounts" that focused in the "normal' direction. They fit several brands including Nikon, each with it's appropriate "T Mount." Now, whether they will be suitable for your needs, I don't know, but in 1968 no one knew my photos with my Vivitar 135mm lens from a Nikon 135mm lens. I don't know if Vivitar made a 50mm f1.4 lens or just an f2 or f1.8 etc. but it is a starting point.
M Joel W
Thanks, Eric. I see that those can be converted to PL mount as well. Not sure if there is a 50mm f1.4, however. I'm looking into Leitax conversions of C/Y lenses. Expensive, but maybe the best option for me for now given I want to match Zeiss and it provides some flexibility. Philip Forrest
The only lens Nikon made that focuses the other direction was the 45mm f/2.8 GN Nikkor.
Malcolm Ian Vu
They also made the Nikonos lenses which have perpendicular focus knobs. Just to be thorough.
Stewart McLain
Another option might be to use a follow focus with a "reverse gear" attachment.

I have an MFF1 from Arri. I think it has a reversible direction? I like to pull off the barrel sometimes so it's not 100% a fix, but if I can adapt to it by switching the direction on the follow focus when I use it and just learning to pull in both directions, that's fine. Stewart McLain
I found this video that shows how to do it with the MFF2. Could work the same way.
