Phillip Mosness
I chatted briefly with a projectionist at a theater showing Dune part 2 in 70mm and he mentioned the film print cost $20,000. This kind of threw me. Does that sound right?
Gautam Valluri
The film's duration is 2 hours 46 minutes, roughly 18,675 feet of 70mm. $20,000 / 18,675 = $1.07 per foot. Sounds kind of low to me?
Mark Dunn
In the 2016 price list I see 2383 listed at about $600/2000ft. That is only 30 cents/foot for the stock, but there will presumably be only a handful of 70mm. prints made so the old economies of scale are gone. It might be a price for replacement only, with neg cutting and grading already paid for.
Gautam Valluri
Also I'd like to know if these were direct filmouts from a Digital file (is that even possible on 70mm?) or was there a 15-perf and 5-perf "internegative" made for contact printing these projection prints?
