Premium Member Tim Carroll Posted May 26, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted May 26, 2004 I have been using the Sony Excellence brand DV tapes for my XL1S since it was brand new, over two years ago and I have never had a problem yet, knock wood. The big thing to remember is to pick a brand and stick with it. Something about the lubricants the different tape brands use and not mixing the lubricants by switching back and forth, like using Sony, then Panasonic, then Sony, etc. The lubricant from the tape builds up on the heads and drive parts, and when the different lubes start mixing and building up, it becomes sticky. That is at least how it was explained to me. Hope that helps, -Tim
Guy Meachin
I've been using Panasonic ones for the past 4 months simply because I got a load free. If I were to change to the ones you're suggesting and cleaned the heads with the head cleaning tape would that make the transition a safer one? Premium Member Tim Carroll Posted May 26, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted May 26, 2004 Don't know how that would effect the situation. If the Panasonic tapes are working well for you, I would keep using them. -Tim
