Chris Burke
Hitachi HDV30 3CCD The Flashscan8 is using this camera, too. Fred. Fred, have you used the Flashscan? If so, what have been the results? Are you pleased with them? How do they compare to say a good Rank transfer. I understand that you can get an uncompressed output via SDI.
Guest videoFred
I'm an amateur... I do not have a Flashscan. But I have seen the results.. very good. But I think the Rank is still the top.. Of cource we are talking about the 8mm (amateur)format, here. Here are some frames, made with the Flashscan8: http://www.filmshooting.com/scripts/galler...mframes?page=52 Fred. Turbe
Interesting caps, good quality.. I will have to check out the Flashscan8.. With the Hitachi, what type of lens is the Sniper unit using? Edited June 13, 2006 by Turbe
Guest videoFred
Some kind of macro lens... It could be the Sony macro c-mount 45mm. I use the Sony myself.. very good lens. Fred.
Rachel Oliver
Hi; I've had some reversal transfered on the Flashscan 8 and was very impressed, I've had S8 transfered on Rank and Ursa before and this was arguably as good for best light stuff (probably scientificaly not quite as good but to my eyes.....) I'd like to see some neg results as dirt could be a problem. Olly
Guest videoFred
The Flashscan is a fine invention... It works in real time, with a flashing led matrix. This led matrix works like an electronic shutter blade. So it creates a pulldown pattern at speeds below 25fps. But at 25fps it gives a frame accurate transfer. I wonder how this principle would perform with 16mm or 35mm film and with a high resolution camera head. Fred.
Turbe
Apparently, those Sony 45mm Macro lenses are hard to come by.. still looking though.. :( Fred, What exactly are you doing with the Sony? DIY Telecine? If so, what other equipment are you using.. Shawn
Guest videoFred
Shawn, Yes, DIY telecine... 8mm only. First, I used a 35mm lens with extention tubes but the Sony macro lens gives a sharper picture at the corners. Actualy, this lens is an extention tube with a very small lens on top of it. About my equipment: please take a look at my site. Fred. Edited June 15, 2006 by videoFred
Turbe
Fred, I see you are using a Eumig Mark S 810, I modified a Eumig Mark 610D. As far as the camera, did you choose the Model #DFK 31AF03 or Model #DFK 31BF03 ("A" or "B")? In the picture on your website (http://www.super-8.be/s8_telecine_imaging.htm), is that the Sony 45mm Macro lens attached to the camera? Lastly, where did you buy your Sony 45mm Macro lens from? :) Shawn Edited June 15, 2006 by Turbe
Guest videoFred
Hi Shawn, I got it two years ago.. Then it was just DFK 31F03. They changed it, now you can get more models. These new models have better dynamic range, too. On my site you see an old R8 25mm lens with extention tubes on the webcam, and a Pentax 35mm lens with extention tubes on the machine vision cam. The webcam was used for testing the system. I do not use it anymore. All examples on my site are taken with this 35mm lens/machine cam. If you take a good look at the frames you see some unsharpness at the edges. I got the Sony macro lens from a filmshooting.com friend in London. But any good quality macro lens schould do the job. I hear Olympus has good ones. But if you want more details, you can mail me: info@super-8.be Fred. Edited June 16, 2006 by videoFred
