Premium Member Michael Nash Posted July 26, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted July 26, 2004 I've heard names for kino's on a couple different set recently and was wondering how common these terms are becoming. Instead of the clunky "four-foot four-bank" and "two-foot four-bank," you would ask for a "fat man" and a "fat boy." The idea is that 4' = man, 2' = boy; 4 tubes = fat, 2 tubes = skinny. So a 4' 2-bank is a "skinny man" and so on. Makes sense to me, but only if others on the set understand what you're talking about. Anyone else heard these terms? Guest Abby
I've heard the fat/skinny man/boy terms a lot, working mostly in NY/NJ. Seems to carry over from set to set, regardless of who I'm working with.
Spider
I will certainly remember them! I think they are great!
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted July 27, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted July 27, 2004 My New York gaffer on "Shadowboxer", Kevin Janicelli, used the terms "long" and "short" to differentiate between the 4' and the 2' fixtures, so he'd ask for a "long four" meaning a 4' 4-banker, or a "short four" (2' 4-banker), or "long two" (4' 2-banker), etc.
Mitch Gross
I always use "4x4, 4x2, 2x2, 2x4" with the first number representing the length and the second the number of bulbs. Everyone understands (or does after they're told once) and it rolls off the tongue easily enough.
