jonnyh1968
Can someone help me understand the gamma settings on the DVX100A? What is the difference between a moderate gradient and a sharp gradient for the low luminance areas? Cine-Like-D says the dynamic range is higher - does this mean it is more light sensitive or theres more detail in the whites and darks? I'm trying to determine what would be the best suited for a dark grey car in a studio using hot lights in low key. Thanks any feedback is greatly appreciated. -Jonnyh
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted August 8, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted August 8, 2004 I'm only familar with the four gammas of the DVX100, not the "A" version with its fifth gamma option, but all of them except for HIGH GAMMA have a lower contrast in the shadow region. The CINE-LIKE GAMMA has an overall flatter (lower contrast) slope but no knee compression on the high end, while the others have a slightly more contrasty slope but more compression at the high end (i.e. less contrast in the brightest areas.)
