Premium Member Adam Thompson Posted March 18, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted March 18, 2007 Films/projects shot on 16mm then tele'd to video seem to have a different look than projects that went to a 35mm print that were then tele'd to video. Any thoughts on that? Does the blow-up change some aspect of the image in some way?
Premium Member Michael Nash Posted March 18, 2007 Premium Member Share Posted March 18, 2007 It depends on the project. The 16-->35 projects were likely telecined off a color-timed interpositive (not the 35mm show print) and subsequently color corrected in telecine and/or tape-to-tape. The 16-->video projects are usually transferred straight off the neg and color corrected in telecine and/or tape-to-tape. Different film generations getting transferred, and different steps for color correction.
Patrick Cooper
"...a different look than projects that went to a 35mm print that were then tele'd to video." Remember that if you telecine a 35mm print (positive image) the end result will be quite contrasty.
