david_morrison Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hey, I'm in Europe shooting some Microsoft commercials, we are using the Varicam / PAL. and the question has come up about the HZ rate. my understanding is at 25fps we should be shooting at 60 HZ. Is this correct? Do you have any other insights or feedback? I appreciate it. David davidrmorrison.com
Nick Mulder Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Dont quite get your question... but: European power is 50Hz so shoot at 25fps

david_morrison Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 The camera can be set at 60HZ or 59.94HZ. I just want to make sure that 60HZ is the right setting. I am shooting at 25fps. what would happen if I shot at 59.94?
Premium Member John Ealer Posted August 15, 2007 Premium Member Posted August 15, 2007 David - Since your end product is PAL, which is a pure 50i, then you are correct in that you'd want the varicam set to 60Hz mode. If you set the camera to 59.94, then your 25fps footage would actually be 24.975, which could cause you a headache in post. J

It's only when you need to be in sync with NTSC that you use "point nine something". -- J.S.
