can HVX shoot epic landscapes?

Shooting HVX200 with redrock and primes. Location and subject matter deals with a tropical island; beaches, jungles, harsh sunlight. Sweeping vistas and beautiful photography are in order, perhaps a bit of time lapse ala koyaanisquatis and baraka. This would be ideal for film, but budget will not allow it.

Initial thoughts would be to make the h.d look work for instead of against me. Lo-con filters? Extensive fill light? Magic settings in the menu? How can i deal with these high-contrast shooting conditions with the format? Any bits of advice/words of wisdom from those of you who have experienced similar situations?

Personally I wouldn't use 35mm adapter for anything involving wide vistas, you're just diffusing the image on a cameras that doesn't have the resolutuion of the 2/3" HD cameras or film. Wanting a shallow 35mm style DOF is the only real reason for using one.

You can shoot time lapse with a DSLR, the quality would be vastly better than that of the HVX 200.
