Christopher Logan
I was scouting a location and found this socket...see pictures below. Don't know what it is, the owner seemed to think it was a 60amp but I've read elsewhere it might only be 30amps. is there a stove tap "like" plug that goes with this socket? looking to plug in a 2.5K hmi.... Brad Dickson
The fact that both slots are going sideways I suspect it is not 120V but 208V or higher depending upon the location of the intallation. You may want to meter the outlet to see voltage etc.
Premium Member John Sprung Posted January 22, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted January 22, 2008 It should be 240 volt 3 wire, i.e., no neutral, just a ground. But do meter it, as these are sometimes installed by people who don't know the code. Here's what the National Electrical Manufacturers Association says about it (scroll down to the diagrams): http://nooutage.com/nema_configurations.htm -- J.S. JD Hartman
This is probably a 6-30R, 240v 30amps. So if the HMI ballast will accept a 240vac input, you could build an adapter from a 6-30P cap and a 60A bates.
