Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted February 14, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted February 14, 2008 Curious if anyone knows what the new Knight Rider TV movie was shot with. The trailer clips have a video texture. There was a clip somewhere that was showing the rear of the car with it's brake lights on. They may have been LED's. Whatever took the shot didn't handle the intense red very well so I assume it's not film. It's interesting that a high-profile show like this, playing on a big network, would compromise quality while cable shows like Breaking Bad on AMC shoot with 35mm. John Toll shot the pilot episode by the way.
Premium Member Michael Lehnert Posted February 26, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted February 26, 2008 Cannot assist you with the format, but would like to know how the film actually shaped up, with 'stangs and stuff? Wasted chance? Cynical milking of past so-so shows? Or a great re-imagining of a former landmark tv series?
Alex Wuijts
Check out this preview, especially at 0:30. Looks like a Genesis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e9wgshS0qI

Premium Member Vincent Sweeney Posted March 25, 2008 Author Premium Member Share Posted March 25, 2008 Thank you for posting that. I have to admit to finding the quote below confusing, and a little discouraging. I only saw part of a commercial for this show and spotted the video look within two seconds. I guess they weren't careful enough. The old "beauty is in the eye..." quote was never better applied, I guess? By the way, what does "bigger range than normal" mean? ;) Q: What?s the biggest misconception about HD production? A: The biggest misconception I find about HD is that I constantly hear that ?the end product is going to look like video.? I say if you?re careful that?s just not the case. Today?s HD cameras really can emulate the look of film. All of the footage we got looked great, it didn?t have that HD feel. The images looked soft, but not too soft and they had bigger range than normal. And when we blew it up it looked better than you?d expect. It was funny ? after the Knight Rider film aired on NBC [on February 17th], Derek texted me and said, ?You nailed it. You?ve just killed the use of film in television.?
