Rich Hibner
Is it possible to stick a 500w bulb in here? http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-250/300W
Premium Member David Auner aac Posted June 12, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted June 12, 2008 I doubt it. the specs on the page are pretty clear. 300W max. Maybe you could fit the 500W bulb but the fixture probably won't take the heat. Cheers, Dave
Rich Hibner
Where were those specs? I didn't find anything other than it could use 2 different bulbs 300w and 250w. Nothing about max. The lights seem so similar from each other, it just seemed like they were selling different heads at different prices and slapping a different watt bulb in each one and changing the price. Nothing about max. That's how I figured that 300W was the max. I can think of no other than buying a small one and and larger one and comparing the build to really find out. But usually I trust what the manufacturers say, but I haven't bought lights that cheap before. When Arri or Dedo or Lowel say 500W max. I do trust them. But here, I'm not so sure. Maybe find someone who ones a couple of these? Cheers, Dave
Rich Hibner
Yeah, im poooo, so I've gotta get some cheap lights. I read ya. I was thinking of only putting 400w in it, possibly pushing 500. Thanks for your input though. Calling out to anyone who's owned these lights. If you know, please let me know.
Premium Member Ralph Keyser Posted June 12, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted June 12, 2008 There was also an e-mail address: sales@rostronics.com You could just ask them :) I'm inclined to agree with David, though. (Gee Dave, it feels like I'm following you around today) They make a 650W version of this light, so I'm betting that 300W is the max.
Rich Hibner
Alright. Well, I guess that'll settle it. I'd email them, but they're salesman. They'll say, get the more expensive light for higher watts. So, that's out of the way, I'll ask this. I'm not asking about lights themselves, I know they aren't Arri or Lowel, but the light output, is that adequate? 1700w total. http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G200 W/ softbox http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-250/300W http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=G-600W 2 x http://www.rostronics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=650Wlight thanks, -Rh

It would be nice to know how much the light puts out, or at least is said to put out, if you're consider purchasing it. They're probably not built that ruggedly but that might be okay if you need inexpensive lights and could baby them but if they're inferior in output to more expensive brands then you might want to question purchasing. Also you'll have to get one or find one in a showroom or someplace to see about the performance as far as flood/spot, beam edge, hot spots, stuff like that. Rich Hibner
Well, I searched through the archives and a lot of people suggested going there. Britek has always gotten 50/50 results. Of course you get what you pay for deal, and most consider it entry level.
Rich Hibner
Any thought if the lights I linked to are an okay setup....not going by brand, but the output? 1700w enough? Primarily shooting narrative on DV, no interviews.. Anything else recommended or changed? Edited June 14, 2008 by Rich Hibner
Rich Hibner
No thought to whether or not 1700w is good? Maybe changing something around? Just wanna know what would be the best possibility here.
Premium Member David Auner aac Posted June 19, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted June 19, 2008 Hard to say. There is no good or bad wattage wise. Depends too much on the size of the room, the number of people etc. Get them, try them and get some more if you need to. Plan. Do. Check. Adjust. as the quality assurance people say! James Brown
I talked to Arri yesterday trying to chase up some lights and as we got talking they told me not to put 500W bulbs in Mizars. I have pretty much only put 500W bulbs in Mizars and never had trouble with the heat....any opinions? James
Rich Hibner
Well, I decided not to go with Britek because I hate being subjected to one watt. I looked around and found Savage light heads that can take E-27 bulbs up to 500watts. I think I'll get 3 of them and then a light up to 1k, maybe a Britek or a better brand. I had a china ball light head from piere one and it said maximum output 200watts...I put a 350 and it was fine. So I dunno, maybe every light has different recommendations for different reasons. It had to be 200 for the Ball itself, because the lamp head didn't do anything.
