American cinematographer manual

Recommended Posts

Wanted to get my hands on this manual for a while, but i'm not quite sure which to get.

I think the 9th ed. is the newest, which i suppose is the one i should get. However, there seem to be a few of these. Also, i read the 9th edition was "completely revised"? Does this mean the 9th edition is a lot different from the ones before it? How different is the manual from edition to edition?

These are the few different 9th editions i found:

http://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematogra...4343&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematogra...5231&sr=8-2

http://www.amazon.com/American-Cinematogra...5231&sr=8-3

Thanks for any help-

Nicholas

Get the 9th.

Some of the other editions had discrepancies in their reference tables from what I'm told.

You can buy it directly from the asc website.

theasc.com

it also now comes in a cheaper paperback; but you'll want the hard back edition. It'll see a lot of use. . .

I went to the website and could only find the paperback edition. Anyone know where to find a hard back?

I dont think they make the 9th edition in a hard back, because I wanted one that had both volumes included into one, but they dont have one, so it's two separate soft back books.

Does anyone else have anything to say on the various editions of the manual?

Definetly go for the 9th?

(I'll be focusing on shooting 16mm)

Thanks-

I was originally just going to get the black hard-back edition, I believe it's 8. It really looks like a bible, haha. 9 would definitely be your best bet, because with whatever additional processes//cameras// since edition 8 would be updated with 9.
