Ram Shani
hi i am about to shot a commercial that is plan to be broadcast on TV in SD my options are Sony ex-3 with it's full HD but with 35mbps 4:2:0 color sampling or dvcpro hd with it's 1440*1080 but with 100mbps and 4:2:2 color sampling we plan to shot with mini pro and cine lenses what you think will be better choice? for camera i like better the ex-3. but for post and CC i think the dvcpro HD will be better. it's non spacial effect commerical! Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted January 25, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted January 25, 2009 Personally, I prefer the EX because it has arguable better glass, shoots more per card, has a newer codec which so far has performed well. I just shot my EX1 in Senegal under all natural lighting and it is far less noisy than that DVCPRO i've shot before. It depends on WHICH DVCPRO camera you're using, though. The HVX is in my honest opinion far inferior for to EX series, however, the HPX and the other 2/3" DVCPROs might be a better choice (EXs with this 1/2" sensors are arguably better at light gathering than 1/3" CCDs). But, be aware, that the rolling shutter on the EX cameras can cause problems with synchronization of strobes of any type, so if you're using a lot of flashes/flash bulbs/police cars etc, it might be best to stick to a CCD camera. My 2 Cents
Premium Member Walter Graff Posted January 25, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted January 25, 2009 It will not make much of a difference. Both will look good and none of the specs you mention will really affect how it looks or should I say looks different in your scenario.

DS Williams
dvcpro is actually 1280x1080, non square pixels. It's great in the editing room, but you end up throwing soo much information away, including half the color and resolution. But, the long gop ex codec is evenMORE compressed, and you might see artifacts if you push it hard enough.
Michael Belanger
himy options are Sony ex-3 with it's full HD but with 35mbps 4:2:0 color sampling or dvcpro hd with it's 1440*1080 but with 100mbps and 4:2:2 color sampling Glad your shoot went well. Just a footnote... DVCPro-HD is only 100mbps when you shoot 60 frames. In 24 fps it runs 40 mbps so much closer the the EX data rate.
