Premium Member Stephen Williams Posted April 8, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted April 8, 2009 i would recommend employing a DoP who knows the camera he wants - and in the particular case a reshoot on 35mm mechanical instead of digital. Good advice if you want the best, rather than good enough for the viewer.
Premium Member John Sprung Posted April 9, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted April 9, 2009 In this situation would you just cut off the already exposed neg, and then thread the remaining amount of film into another mag (while disposing of the damaged section of film)?? The right thing to do would be to pull the mag with the damaged film, and put up a new one. Then just cut off the damaged end in the darkroom and re-thread the very long short end in that same mag. Not likely to happen, though, given how they got themselves into this mess in the first place.... -- J.S.
David Rakoczy
Some time back, a Japanese film worker told me that if a scene had to be reshot because of a crew members screw up, that person had to pay for the reshoot. btw.. most crew members can not afford a single day re-shoot... Yup, which is why they'd need malpractice insurance. Theoretically possible, but I really really don't see the industry making that kind of change. It's more cost effective for the production to carry insurance rather than all the crew members -- bigger chunks of insurance, less paperwork. -- J.S.
