Premium Member Chris Keth Posted December 11, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted December 11, 2004 I finally had the chance to see Northfork and I was blown away. It was as beautiful a movie as I've seen in a very long time. I just wanted to compliment you, David, on some really beautiful work. Out of curiosity, where was the film shot? I was born around the Northfork area of Montana :D
Premium Member Laurent Andrieux Posted December 11, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted December 11, 2004 Have a look around the forum. David posted a link to a very interesting webpage about the shooting, storyboard etc. Launch a quick search, I guess you would easily find it. Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted December 12, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted December 12, 2004 The first three days were shot near Glasgow, MT in Eastern Montana for the Fort Peck Dam exterior plus the abandoned town of St. Marie north of that. A diner was used in Glasgow. Then we moved west, stopping at two of the dams in Great Falls, MT (where production was based) to shoot interior shots of the power generators and a long underground passageway. We spent the next two weeks in the area a few minutes north of Augusta, MT (where "The Slaughter Rule" was shot) on a private ranch where the church, graveyard, ark house, and sawed-in-half house were built. We drove north to a lookout off of the highway just south of Choteau for the scene where the men look at the view after moving the casket and reburying it. We then shot a few scenes in the town of Augusta (the general store, some driving shots) and then finished the last week (the fourth) in Great Falls shooting the orphanage scenes with the priest and boy. Premium Member Greg Gross Posted December 12, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted December 12, 2004 Man is that all you can say? Its the best damn film I've seen in two years. How about the scene where Mr. Nick Nolte is bending over the little boy on the bed. David gives a description here on the forum on how he lit the scene. Sweet jesus I love that scene! I hope some day the film gets the credit its due. The people here in Pennsylvania where I live have just woken up to it and they love it! Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted December 12, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted December 12, 2004 Looks like I will be shooting a family drama about a girl who goes to the National Spelling Bee Contest, sort of like a fictional "Spellbound".
