Frank DiBugnara
I need to do a few pick up shots for a green screen job that we shot on RED. I'm trying to cut some costs, so I'm wondering if anyone has had any successful 5D green screen experiences? Thanks.
Scott Fritzshall
I'm sure you can do it, but it's got some fairly heavy compression, so you're going to be dealing with that. Oh and also until they release that new firmware, it's still 30p.
Premium Member John Sprung Posted October 21, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted October 21, 2009 It's also a 4:2:2 YUV system, so you might not get mattes as sharp as you do from Red's RGB. Do let us know how it works. -- J.S.
Frank DiBugnara
I think we are going to just shoot the pick-ups on Red and have a 5D there to shoot some test. I'll let you know how that works out.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted October 21, 2009 Premium Member Share Posted October 21, 2009 Can't recommend you shoot green on the 5D. Huge compression, plus the fact that the sensor is brutally subsampled which looks sorta kinda vaguely OK on general footage but would murder you for greenscreen I fear. Still I would be interested to see how it looks. P
Alex Barroso
I have already done some green screen tests with the camera and have had absolutely no problem keying it out.
Brian Drysdale
I suspect it may depend on what you are keying, eg blonde with her hair blowing in the wind. Also, how demanding you are in the quality of the key and its edge.
