Most versatile light for 1000$??

I have around 1000$ to spend on light gear

I have look around for many company,

Arri, Kinoflo and the other "standard"

 

I'm mainly looking for :

 

- Powerful light(with dimmer)

- Portable (if possible)

- Compatible with Alien bees Octabox (if possible)

- Versatile

 

If you we'e me, What would you buy ?

I would love to have your opinnion on that !

I'd get C-stands, flags kits, stingers, maybe some 2k stands then just rent the lights. Maybe try to get a used tweenie kit and offer that as a rental. Also the Tota kits are pretty good deals if you don't need a Fresnel.

You know, I was never a fan of the Tota's myself, but for 1000 you can probably pick up some used Mole Richardson heads (Junior and Baby Solar Spots), though make sure you have some money left over for stands and bulbs.

look into using par cans. I bought 3 units with bulbs for under $100. You can get 300/500/750/1000w bulbs with different spreads (very wide, wide, medium, narrow, very narrow). They look great. They are cheap, and you can nock 'em around too. They are not compact, but that hasn't been an issue for me.

Bear in mind that there are different sized bulbs, par 38, 46, 56, 64.

Par cans have gel holders which are sweet. You can also build softboxes to go around them as well.

 

I'm a big fan of spending little money and using what I have till I can afford or NEED to buy the real deal stuff (like arri lights)
