Pretty amazing to watch bias in action. This statement irked me:

If we were to assume that the basic foundation of your ideas have any validity at all, I'd suggest that the comparison isn't one of a political nature, but rather a religious one wherein the "film" aficionados are the religious zealots, placing tradition and belief above progress and scientific advancement. -Drian Dzyak

So I responded... and after a socialistic defense by Brian... and Mr. Jenson bringing up the idea that Christianity IS socialism..... I responded again .. and what happens? The thread is SHUT DOWN. Closed! Of course, all that was discussed is lost. That is the most important part. It is amazing to see bias in action! They don't seem to mind three days of Viagra on the site but boy, defend your faith or take a stance against atheism or socialism after another member's remarks and you WILL be shut down. Welcome to the new fascism. You can expect this thread to die as well. Nice to see an open 'exchange' of ideas.

You could be next!... unless you fit 'in' of course!

I'm not a moderator but I asked Tim to shut it down if he didn't want to just start editing it from the moment you chose to personally attack Brian just because he used a common metaphorical term "religious zealot" to describe a certain personality type.

He didn't attack The Bible (I'm a Christian and I certainly did not make that leap) and he certainly didn't personally attack you, but you chose to make it personal, which caused Brian to defend himself, etc. starting a downward spiral that served no purpose on a cinematography site.

This is a privately-owned website so it's silly to make some sort of stand for free speech, or call it "fascist" because it is moderated.

That is Cow Crap David and you know it! So the fact that YOU did not make that leap dismisses those of us who read the obvious implications of Brian's statements?

...AND.... If you took that one remark as a personal attack and as a "reason" to shut down a thread.. I could ask Tim to shut down HUNDREDS of threads on this site! Are you kidding?! It was your bias and your 'pull' that made that happen and I hardly took your action as quote unquote 'christian'. Quit parading.

Who do you think you are kidding? The other remarks remain....

The thread should have been moved to Off Topic (in it's entirety).... or the ENTIRE thread should have been deleted.

Unbelievable! tsk tsk....

D. Rakoczy:

When the subject in discussion is cinematography, you have been very helpful in the past to very many people --myself included-- for which I thank you.

But, if your approach to discussing politics and religion around here is not paying off, why keep doing it over and over?

This is a privately owned forum dedicated to cinematography in all its shapes and forms (as the name implies), so if the powers that be think that the discussion is dangerously veering off topic, they have every right to stop it in its tracks. And it is up to them to decide what exactly needs to be stopped, like it or not.

Just like if you invited some people over to your house and they kept constantly arguing about something in a manner you think is offensive and disruptive, you would have every right to ask said persons to keep it down (observe your rules), or leave your house.

We are all guests here, and it is up to each one of us to maintain a level of civility and respect towards others who don't agree with us. Those of us who aren't continuously willing to behave according to what the owners of this forum and other members agree is appropriate, are free to espouse our views in the manner we so choose elsewhere.

Sincerely,

Saul Rodgar

I just posted at your site, I invite others to do the same. There's some great information over there and it's definitely worth a look. It has categories not covered here as this site is geared for cinematography, things like Greens and Propmaster headings, a very complementary companion to this site.

Thank you, James! I STILL get emails and some phone calls on a regular basis from aspiring "filmmakers" who are looking for information about the real industry and what it takes for them to "get in" in a variety of jobs. Of course there are the "rock star" positions, like DP, but there are so many other things to do that I wanted to offer some real estate where those "island of misfit toys" areas could camp out. :)

And I do see it as the jumping off point as I regularly recommend this site and others as well as a variety of other books (in addition to my own) so that the new generation can have the most information possible as they set out into the world that many of us are already familiar with.

Religion seems to send some people off the deep end. As for "The Bible," you surely must have noticed quite a bit of gibberish and contradictory concepts in there? Anyone?

Personally, I love the term "religious zealot."

Oh, and that Jesus guy did tell me that the poor would inherit the earth.

Hmm, see, this type of post is unnecessarily feeding the flames of controversy and discord (trolling). Can we please all agree not to delve into the hot topics of religion and politics in this cinematography forum? Please use PM, email or other internet forums for this type of conversation.
