Ashley Barron
Hello to all, I remember hearing that the lighting designers on the Oprah Winfrey Show had some specific light and gel combinations and effects to achieve that flat, 'beauty'/'flawless' look on Oprah and her guests.. Does anyone know what they actually do? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Ashley.

Tom Jensen
Nobody knows?? Not a lot of Oprah watchers amongst us. I would imagine they just use a lot of light coming from an overhead grid. Plus when I watch Oprah, I'm not looking at the light. I'm too involved in the story.
JD Hartman
You might get the answer by writing to the production company responsible, specifically the DP or Gaffer. I doubt that they had anything "special" concocted. More likely influenced by the typical factors: fixture chosen, wattages, fixture location, distance, angle, gels, skin tone, makeup, variables introduced by furniture and other set pieces, etc. In addition, being a studio set, they have ample time to fine tune the look, probably with an Oprah stand-in.
