HDCAM vs. HDCAM SR with the 7D

Hi there,

I'm starting work on a feature that will be shot on the Canon 7D. I am going to make HDCAM sub-masters of the footage from Final Cut Pro.

I am wondering if picture wise it makes any sense to master at HDCAM SR or if the H.264 footage is already so compressed that it wouldn't make a difference.

what do we think?

The only reason to go with SR is that it'll be available farther into the future than original HDCam. But then again, SR decks can play the old HDCam's, and there's not likely to be a new tape format in the forseeable future.

LTO would be a great choice as well, considering the cost of HDCAM tapes.

The 7D does not generate as much media as a RED, so don't be worried about storage space. If you want a tape backup, LTO4 is the way to go.

BTW, I know you want a submaster on tape, but I was also thinking about archival reasons too.
