I read a lot. Talk to experts. Try things out for myself. Often you find yourself on each project trying one trick you haven't done before (or several if you like living dangerously) so the more you shoot, the more you learn.

In reading the "art is not a democracy."

 

I remember reading awhile ago, someone pushing the merits of digital projection.

 

Basically they said a movie in the theater is not doing well, digital projection will allow the Director the ability to edit and tweek the film until they figure out a combination that works for the audience. Essentially represented in box office gross.

 

When I read that I nearly fell out of my chair and thought "that day will be the death of filmmaking."
