  1. I thought a good example of this was in Garden State. There's a scene where a few people are sitting next to a huge fireplace and it's the only thing lighting the room. I thought they did a good job lighting it. Natalie Portman is a cutie.
  2. Oh ok, the purple and gold. That's cool. Yeah man, you gotta get out of that town. Michael Jackson is the biggest thing that Santa Maria has seen in a while, if not ever. I doubt you have seen me at Hancock though. I graduated in 2000. I actually only took one film class at that time. Wish I would have taken more. Anyway, good luck with school and maybe I'll see you around LA.
  3. Hey Allen, Do you go to Santa Maria High School? I used to live in Arroyo Grande. I actually went to Hancock College. What brings you to a small town like Santa Maria? How do you like it?
  4. Training Day and Collateral for Los Angeles
  5. I just shot some interviews a couple of days ago with a black backdrop. We basically put a soft key towards the side, bounced a smaller light for fill, and back lit from above and behind the backdrop. It turned out real nice. But if only I knew about this technique. It sounds pretty cool. You can really see the color bounce off of a black backdrop? Interesting...
  6. Great interview David. You are truly an inspiration for me and to many others. Thanks.
  7. This seems to be noticeable to me. I just saw Finding Neverland the other day and there was this shot of Mr. Barry's wife. It looked like the light was just a few feet away from her. At least it was motivated by a lamp near by. One thing I noticed about this movie was the eye lights. It was similar in almost every shot with every actor. Just a small dot in the eye. Does anyone know what they used for it?
  8. Hi everyone. This is my first post and I just wanted to say I've learned so much from this forum and that I view films completely differently now (In a good way). I am itching to film and start experimenting with lighting. Anyways, I was just wondering. Seeing how DPs are truly lovers of light, how do you guys light your home? As I have just moved into a new apartment, I couldn't help but look around and fantasize how I would want to light each room. Any unique setups? Thanks.
