Joe Zakko
I'm looking for a follow focus to use with my bolex h16, if anyone knows where I could get one, I would appreciate it.
Tim Tyler
You'll need a rod system and a lens before you can choose a follow focus. Do you have any lenses? Do they have focus gears? What's you budget?
Joe Zakko
I have a 25mm sony tv lens, not sure what makes it a tv lens but that's what it says, not sure what focus gears are, and my budget isn't extremely high, but is subject to change if the price isn't too bad. Tim Tyler
In order to work with a follow focus, a lens must have a geared focus ring so that it can mesh with the gear on the follow focus.
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted January 9, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted January 9, 2011 Aside from the issue of needing a focus gear ring for your lens, you'd also need to invest in a customised rod support to hold the follow focus. The original Bolex rods don't match modern follow focus standards. I would suggest you spend your money on a new lens (or two) instead. What you have is not a cine lens, nor is it designed for use with the Bolex prism (if you have a reflex model). A decent lens is far more vital than a follow focus, and having only one prime is going to severely limit your options. If you search the archives here you will find plenty of suggestions for good lenses for a Bolex H16.
