Premium Member Hal Smith Posted October 24, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted October 24, 2011 A bit more expensive than your budget (but not too much) would be camera plus Canon's EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 IS USM. I've got one and it's a great lens, close to an "L" lens in optical quality.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted October 24, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted October 24, 2011 There's also the 60mm macro prime that's a fantastic general-purpose lens for cinematography and portrait work, but 60 is pretty narrow for casual photography on an EF-S sensor. Fantastic bit of glass though.

jacob thomas
Can I pick 24-105 f4 L ? it cost about 2300$ right now... You probably want something a little faster like the 24-70mm f2.8 or the 17-55mm f2.8 I used to have a 7D with the 24-70mm which was a nice combination for cinematography. 24mm was most of the time plenty wide enough, but a lot of the time I wished it was a faster lens. andrew parrish
What kind of work do you see yourself doing? The type of filming you do should have a big effect on the type of equipment you buy.
