Jeffrey Doornbos
Hello, I'm looking to buy a Super 8 camera, but I need one that meters for ISO 500... any recommendations? Thanks!
David Owen James
Best to ask in the Super 8 section, a lot of knowledgable people there.
Chris Burke
A higher end NIzo like the 6080 does, as would a Beaulieu 4008. Probably several more, however because of the age of the camera, trusting it's meter is a bit of a gamble. Many cameras will meter the 500 iso carts at a stop or more over. This is no big deal and actually where you want to be anyway. 7219 is extremely forgiving, so.... get any camera and shoot and use an external meter. Don't use the internal 85 filter either if shooting outdoors as it is most likely worn out and will degrade the image. For example, I have a Sankyo 255xl, it meters the 500t outdoors at 160. You might think that it will be WAY too overexposed, when in fact it is ideal. With a 85 filter up front of the lens, the speed is effectively 320, the camera meters it one stop over at 160. For super 8 negative one over is where you want to be "usually". In quotations because every case is different, but the film is so fool proof that I feel very confident in saying, get any camera and shoot. Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted June 3, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted June 3, 2013 I believe the Beaulieu 4008 only goes to 400 but that should be close enough in Super 8.
David Cunningham
Yeah, they all only do 400 without modification as that was the Kodak notching standard limit. But, like you say, over exposing 500T just a hair is a good thing, especially with Super 8.
