Marco Montenegro
Hi guys, i just got my footage back from Fotokem and i got it as MXF file! Is there any way i can see it, a part from FCP, or Avid?! Thanks
Guest Owen Parker
You could try downloading the Avid MXF plugin and codec pack, which is free, and then installing VLC player. That should allow you to view your rushes from within VLC player.
Marco Montenegro
Thx Owen, but i don't have avid on my comp, and it says codecs could not be installed because Avid is missing. If there is any other way to see my footage, it would be great Thank you again for your help
Alan Duckworth
Marco, there may be something here that helps: http://article.filesatoz.com/free-mxf-player-for-windows.html I am curious myself to see if this works, best of luck,
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted August 4, 2013 Premium Member Share Posted August 4, 2013 MXF could mean a lot of things. The first thing to do is ask Fotokem what kind of MXF it is, or failing that, what sort of system they'd expect it to work on. You could try the free tool ffmpeg, which should be able to extract it to another format, possibly without loss if it's in a codec that's understood by Quicktime or AVI files. Alan Duckworth
I downloaded VLC media player and it played an .mxf file just fine all on its own, no special plug-in needed.
Chris King
Do you have FCP installed on your computer? You can import your MXF files to FCP for viewing and editing. If it doesn't work, try to convert MXF to MP4, AVI, MOV, MPEG for playing easily with QuickTime.
