Shelagh Healey
Just bought this MXL 550/551R Condenser Ensemble Microphone Kit, Red with Chrome Grill. First time buying a mic. It's internally wired so do we need to buy cables and phantom power? Also any other tips for using it would be great.
Bradley Smith
Yes, If you look it up online you will see that these mics both require 48V phantom power and almost certainly have XLR inputs. This is true of most condensor mics. So to use it at a minimum you will need some XLR cables and also a source of 48V phantom power which could be a mixer, and audio recorder or a prosumer level camera that has XLR inputs that are powered. Not all of these offer XLR inputs or phantom power so you'll need to be selective about what you use to record.
Brian Drysdale
I should point that this is more a studio mic for music recording, than one you'd use as a mic for recording location sound on a film.

I'm actually using it for music recording, Not film.
