Brian Drysdale Posted June 10, 2014 Share Posted June 10, 2014 24 fps is the theatrical frame rate, commonly used in NTSC countries as a universal frame rate for shooting progressive frame video in NTSC countries, with the advantage of having the same universal frame rate as film. Commonly used to give a film look to video or digital media. It has less temporal resolution than 60p. 25p is the frame rate used in PAL countries and is used to shoot progressive frame video in those countries.50i is interlaced video and has a higher temporal resolution by splitting each frame into two fields, but has the downside of not being complete frame, but alternate video lines, so more prone to artifacts with visual effects. It's a means of compression from the early day of television. Both of these don't give flicker in 50Hz countries with lights like fluorescents.
