Zoom Aid

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So I am shooting a one take and my director insists on multiple zooms being used throughout the shot.

The lens of choice is the Red Zoom [18-85 mm].

However I have noticed that pulling off smooth zoom by hand is head ache.

Is there any rig that helps in zooming in and out ?

Thank You

Hello Vivek,

What you might want to use is a device called Microforce Zoom Control, made by Preston.

It is very easy to use and you usually attach it to the handle / arm of the head via an accessory which is usually included in the kit (O'connor or any other head).

You can select the zoom speed and it has a slow stop which is very handy to make smooth stops.

Have a good day!

Miguel is on it. Also, when you rent the Microforce, be aware that there is a newer digital version and an older analog version. Both work fine, but you can't use a digital motor with an analog Microforce so test that it works before you leave the rental house.

You also have to supply 12v power the Microforce, usually from a camera accessory port or the d-tap on the battery plate. Definitely specify to the rental house which camera and method of power you will require so that they can supply the appropriate power cable.
