Question about lens viewfinders

That's a Director's Viewfinder, handy because PL mount cameras tens to be rather bulky. Those babies can be pretty expensive.

For M42 lenses any M42 reflex stills camera would do the job, or even one with a different mount that could adapt to M42. You could buy a cheap camera and mark the ground glass with the aspect ratio you're planning to use.

As Dom says, any M42 mount still camera could be used. You can get them on eBay for as little as $5.00. Being full frame 35mm cameras, the field of view for any lens will be different to that of a digital camera with a s35mm sensor, so you would have to mark the viewing screen appropriately. Another, more expensive option would be to buy an old APS-C camera and use an m42 adapter. APS-C is a fairly good match for s35, although you would still need to adjust the aspect ratio from 3:2 to 16:9. Something like a Canon EOS 10D can be found for around $50 on eBay, and an EOS - M42 adapter is around $15
