Premium Member Alessandro Machi Posted July 3, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted July 3, 2005 I thought it might be useful to have a Super-8 Wetgate list for future reference. I know Film and Video Transfers in Northridge, California offers wetgating on their Rank Cintel for both Super-8 and Regular 8. I find Wetgating to be really essential for Super-8 footage that has either white skys or is heavily backlit and because the format is so small that any imperfections appear much larger than they would on 16m or 35mm. For those who don't know what WetGating is, it's when film that is being transferred to video is temporarily coated with a quickly evaporating liquid substance. Just prior to the film being scanned to video the wetgate pad dispenses a fluid directly onto the film which fills in scratches on the film itself. The wetgate pad also helps remove dust particles. The Wetgate liquid must then evaporate before the film reaches the take-up reel. Anyone else offering Wetgate for Super-8?
