how to get nice flares?

Hi, I'm wondering how can I get those nice narrow long flares you often see in police and action scenes? is it type of lenses? is it possible to get it with a filter?

the scene is a police action scene. policemen with torches and maybe some police cars inside the forest.

I'm looking for those long stripes of flares, narrow stripe flare?

Short answer: anamorphic lenses, or 2-point star filters, or post effect.

Hi,

 

You know, those little anamorphic adapters for miniDV cameras sometimes produce horizontal flares, presumably exactly the same way that the cylindrical elements in 2:1 scope anamorphics do. There's some stuff in Super Size Me which I'm pretty sure shows this effect, as well as nasty dancing-lens-flares artifacts of in-camera stabilisation.
