Larry Chan
Hi all I would like to ask whether there is any successful applicant here because according to the website, AFI should have announced the admission result of fall 2004. I am also an applicant of AFI cinematography from Hong Kong. Best Larry

bearcub
Sorry to hear that, I should be getting my letter of decline from AFI this time next year! Seriously, I just decided to get serious about cinematography after years between schools. I have very little film work under my belt. What kind of work did you show? What are your options now? Larry Chan
Hi bearcub Finally there's someone reply. Thx so much. Actually, i've applied for AFI and CalArts. I still havent received letter from CalArts, and so i assume that it hasnt rejected my application yet. I just included my final project from school and some photos taken recently. Perhaps I do not have enough experience to back me up. i dont know. Good luck to you. So keep in contact. Best Larry
bearcub
Hi Larry, my name is David. Are you just out of high school? What was your last project for school about? I was set to leave the University of the Arts here in Philadelphia a few months ago for Los Angeles. However I realized that I haven't planned this out too well... I'm gonna take the summer to explore the USofA a bit and figure out where I will be next fall. I was thinking of just working my ass off and shooting as much film as I can afford/is possible and apply in January for 2005 fall. There's a kid in my film class that wants me to shoot a horror movie he's making next fall-his parents got him the Sony DVX100 for a gift, so it'll be great to shoot with that... technoir@mytownchicago.com is my email, good luck with hearing back from cal-arts. mxz
How do you guys manage to film and film and make all sorts of small movies for yourselves? How do you get the money for all the beautiful cameras, lenses, lights, mics, tripods and glidecams? :/ All I got is a full time job to earn a living, crappy Sony DV camera, a lousy plastic tripod and a dream to go to a serious filmschool :(
Larry Chan
Actually I'm now working in a commercial production house as a PA. As I'm also responsible for taking care of the camera and lighting equipment, I can use them whenever I want. And I really did. I just shoot an indie with my colleagues, not very experiemental, but already a very good experience. We shoot it mainly using the DVX100A, and some pick up shots with Canon Scoopic 16. We have no budget and all are from our own savings. So save some money for filmmaking MAN! Remember to share what you shoot with us! Larry
mxz
I just might :) Anyway, looked at the fees for AFI. All I can say is - DAMN! Where the hell do I get 100 grand? :D
Alvin Pingol
Where the hell do I get 100 grand? :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Loans? Scholarships?
mxz
Loans? Scholarships? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In a country with the minimal monthly wage of 140$? People here wouldn't even aid you with 1000$ wihtout a detailed 100-page long business plan of how you (your education) is going to bring it back to him. It's a big risk and nobody wants to take it. Anyway, I shall look around the international institutions, that are linked to in the AFI site, maybe come up with something, send some letters and stuff.
