Jon O'Brien
If you could choose between a slightly worn SR3 that has seen much use, or an immaculate German-modified SR which has hardly ever been used, and assuming both have been recently checked and both run fine, and are up-to-date with battery supply etc, which would you prefer? Is the SR3 significantly quieter? I'm guessing, if the SR3 is a bit old, then not necessarily.
Jon O'Brien
And let us further assume that both were in Super 16 -- that the SR had been converted and had a SR3 S16 gate in it.
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted September 25, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted September 25, 2021 I think SR3s are much better cameras all round. If the SR has been converted, make sure it was a proper conversion with modified mirror/shutter, recentred mount and optics, modified mags and an actual S16 gate, some early modifications were a bit dodgy. The interiors of SR mags have often deteriorated with age, so that the rubberised paint has become sticky and can interfere with the film, so check that. I think even a well-used SR3 would be quieter. A lot of use is ok as long as it had a bit of maintenance and wasn’t subjected to salt water or lots of fine sand etc, or stored in a damp, musty basement.
