Nick Blenkush
Hi everyone! I just purchased a Arriflex BL4s 35mm camera and had a couple basic lens questions about it. 1. What lenses would you recommend for it that would be versatile? Looking specifically for lenses that are good in small shooting areas. 2. Do you guys recommend newer PL lenses or vintage ones? Any help would be great. Thanks! - Nickolas
Thom Kuo
Congratulations Nick! The BL4s is a boss camera. I own two. If you're on a budget, Zeiss CP series are nice. CP meaning compact primes. If you're really into saving money...the Meike lens are surprisingly good for the price. Duclos sells these, and I don't think they'd carry them if they were junk. They only have two focal lengths in PL mount thus far. Since you're shooting on film, it's okay to get newer lenses.
Nick Blenkush
Thanks for the info Thom! I haven’t checked those lenses out yet, but I’ll look into them now. I was also considering the Irix lenses, but they are a fairly new company so I’m slightly hesitant. I’m also new to shooting on film (I’ve just used digital my whole career). Do you know of any good resources to learn camera operation for the BL4s? I know the very basics, but would like to learn more. Thanks again! - Nickolas

Alex Anstey
Also worth picking up a copy of Jon Fauer's Arri 35 book which is basically an instruction manual on how to use your BL4 - really good. Version on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185326785867?hash=item2b2656554b:g:y6cAAOSwL69iI67L 1
