  1. No, it's in storage somewhere, along with the Filmo. I bought a second Filmo 70-DR this week.
  2. Well it's...definitely too late now. RIP Bernie.
  3. It comes from a book named "Story" by Robert McKee.
  4. Since you're talking corporate gigs, I'm amazed they even get you time sometimes to shoot film, process and scan. Personally I'd stick to it if I could. Nothing my Minolta can't handle. If not, look up the Fujifilm GFX 100S and Leica M10-R. Those two always give excellent stills, especially, Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes (such as Provia, Velvia, and Astia) have incredible resemblance to classic film stocks.
  5. I just re-read this. I don't think Sony would intentionally release a cheap camera that could compete with the Burano.
  6. People reading this whole thread are going to think we're bipolar if they don't see the years leap between posts, haha I know about the Ursa Cine 12K, but my budget won't allow it. With the viewfinder it's about 3 times what I'm able to spend, and if I were going that route, I might as well pick up a used Arri Alexa. Unless you think those are problematic due to age etc. Actually I wish I hadn't said that, because I'm looking at used Alexas and they're not as impossible to afford as they once were.
  7. Yeah, about that, I'll be shooting with only one zoom lens through the whole thing. But again, this is me buying a camera to last 10+ years, so if I eventually do anything that will require AF, I don't wanna be like "Ohhh nooo I should've gone with Sony/Canon!" a year or two down the line. If it weren't for the AF, it would be a no-brainer, I'd choose BMD every time. But I'm also too old now to want to deal with focus pulling. I've been out of the game for 7 years at this point. If I can avoid 1) focus pulling and 2) ND filters I'm going with whatever. Okay, pretend it's you and you own nothing else, and you can only choose Sony or Canon, what would you go for?
  8. A web series where I'm the only one shooting and have no dedicated focus puller.
  9. I don't know if you watch Gerald Undone but he pretty much passed on Sony FX6 and said that the Canon C500 Mark II was the best camera he ever used. Then he said the C300 Mark III was his new favorite camera. And after that, he said the Canon C70 was the one to buy. I tend to trust him because he doesn't care what camera companies will say (which is one reason he never gets invited to events). But he's not a DP. And his stance against camera companies manipulating review channels is why he won't get early access to the C80 or C400. But yeah, his passing on the FX6 is very telling, since he uses mostly Sony, in spite of having a bone to pick with them as a company.
  10. For real, what would you choose? And it can't be BMD because it doesn't have autofocus. I own the BMPCC and the BMPCC 6K. I love them. But they don't have the AF so I'm between Sony and Canon at this point. And I'm a Canon fan.
  11. Yeah, I was totally going to get an FX6. The FX9 owners were all mad that Sony fixed a lot of the issues by releasing the FX6. I had always been anti-Sony but I did see good stuff out of the FX6 videos out there. In fact I'd been gearing up to get the C400, but the FX6 kept pulling me back. Honestly just want to buy a camera and then no more for 10 years. This is actually why I don't get the FX6. Why? I hear the FX6 Mark II is in the works and coming soon. If I buy the C400, I don't have to be afraid of a Mark II being released before the year is through.
  12. That sounds great, do you work in ProRes or 4K XAVC 480? I can't wait to try my new camera out. I don't think I'll be doing the RAW because it requires buying the $600 add-on (AXS-R5).
  13. Thank you for the clarification, yes you do have to unscrew the flange and remount. It's not like a Metabones thing, I guess. Sure, DM me what you have in mind for that zoom. Are you leaving the F55 environment?
  14. This is incorrect, I see Fujinon E-mount zooms on F55s all the time.
  15. This entire thread....lmao! 7 years later and I bought a Sony F55 out of curiosity. I think it's because my career doesn't hinge on a toy. I would still use a Canon professionally. WHO KNOWS?? I have been out of cinematography for so long that I don't even remember my own opinions. Apologies to everyone, don't hold me accountable for stuff I don't remember. 😁 @Tyler Purcell Do you still think Sony is unusable garbage? I wish I could remember, but I have been dealing with family illness for 6 years now. But It is interesting to see that I ended buying the same camera I formerly disparaged. Are @Stuart Brereton and @Robin R Probyn still alive?
  16. Thanks! Hopefully this thread will help people making the same journey! Mine will come with a Gold Mount plate. I never owned one before. I wonder why the owners didn't just go with V-mount. I also wish there was a SxS-to-SSD solution, but I doubt that's ever going to be a thing. Edit: I just found out there are adapters that allow you to use SD cards in SxS slots, but, I have yet to see confirmation that it will work with the F55.
  17. I ordered it, it was just the right thing to do. Now to find a way of mounting an E mount lens on a FZ mount!
  18. I found a guy selling one with the ProRes upgrade for $2k. What do you think? The ProRes board alone used to cost $2k by itself! @Tyler Purcell what do you think?
  19. Does anyone have a diagram of this? I'm having a hard time picturing it in my head.
  20. How did you solve this? I'm on the same boat now.
  21. You know it's funny but I have been mulling over the idea of getting the C300 Mark III instead. The price in the used market toppled hard!
  22. At the end of 2017, I gave Bernie a LOT of work having him overhaul my entire huge 16mm camera collection. I was preparing for a film that never got made because one of my kids developed an illness that would remove me from cinematography for years to come. I recently started looking into getting back into film, and thought I would look him up. Unfortunately he died in 2021, just a few years after our long conversations about film. I'll never forget him telling me "Us film guys are fewer and fewer every day, not many of us left." He was an amazing person to talk to, and very passionate about film. He helped as many people as he could, until he couldn't. It's good that I got to connect with him before he died. Obituary: https://www.pucedofuneralhome.com/obit/2021/5/24/bernard-daniel-odoherty
  23. Hey Robyn, how do you feel about the F55 in 2024?
  24. I'm very interested in a used F55, but I have zero experience with them. How would I go about recording ProRes 4444 on a Sony F55?
  25. I think the word you were looking for was overhaul. What did you end up getting? I'm likely to pull trigger on a F55.
