  1. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any rental houses in the Dominican Republic that carry red bodies or red aks? Thank you, Jamie
  2. If u are 2nd'ing, you won't need to know the menus. Ideally, you shouldn't be touching the camera. The catch 22, is that everyone is expected to know alot about reds, so start learning just incase the 1st needs help. Going to a local camera shop to do a build (call first and arrange a good time) will certainly help.
  3. Cheapest way to do it; shoot on the 5D 2 and use the mega pixels in post to move the frame around. Frame wider than you want, so you can punch in and move around. ;)
  4. David: use Instantshot for screen capture http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31545
  5. .mov's won't have the latitude of the raw image, which is where the good stuff is. red alert and redcine should help. Tiff's are more than fine (16 bit color space, when red is 12bit)
  6. Ur name sounds familiar. I think you've booked frazers camera sometimes when I try to get it ;). I worked with Kellogg over the summer on Prankster. Very nice guy.
  7. From his book "painting with light" it's very similar to the picture you first posted. You can hang one in the center of a set, and light most of it from this one "multi" light. wish i could find a picture of it; it is in his book. Soft source, with hard lights all around it.
  8. Ran into a situation the other day where the ISO was bumped to 500 instead of 250. Eh...
  9. whoa, I didn't realize that there were skypans rigged on-top of that rig as well! Looks like a bigger version of a John Alton Light!
  10. A lighting balloon would be a great simple way to accomplish this; less rigging involved. There is circular truss, which you could use to strengthen the bottom part of the rig, and tie off the duvytyne and silk to. Finding a circular silk is another story. I've always wanted to build a book light like this; 9K pars bounced into ultrabounce, and then through 1/4 grid or sail (something very light). Let us know what you end up doing!
  11. There are so many ways to do this. You can get away with using a polecat and 1 redhead, but don't put too much more on it. Wall spreaders are great, so are speedrail starters combined with speedrail to make a pretty strong overhead support; as long as you screw into the studs.
  12. every red camera is different. Seems you had some issues that even I haven't come across. and yes, definitely protect the highlights as much as possible.
  13. I've had problems with big chimera's on arri 2k's; with the chimera being too heavy for the yolk. I'm sure it's the same for most lights.
  14. If it's supposed to bear resemblance to Blair witch, then forgo the letus.
  15. A MV I was on recently, had me on a 6mm (at 2k, or 16mm) at a 5.6 if I'm correct. We were on a 4' jib moving the entire reach back and forth. I checked the DOF charts and I saw that if I focused at 4', I'd have Acceptable focus from 2.5' - infinity. These are rough #'s as I'm trying to remember, but you get the point.
  16. Macbook pros with SSD drives would certainly help... I have no idea if it would work, but what about a netbook?
  17. jesus! a youtube link for a phantom video...
  18. Have you checked into rental prices for a phantom? The cost of the camera body alone should blow away a 35mm equivalent. You will also need more than just the Phantom Body; cinemag, Phantom tech, storage...etc. I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about.
  19. I'm sure you guys might not have a choice in posting links to youtube, since that might be the only link available...I have to say it's very frustrating to watching anything on youtube, noneless Phantom footage, and see the camera for what it's worth (i know I'll never see anything on the web that closely resembles the output of the camera though)
  20. Interesting idea. I usually made mention to the gaffer/electric and they would assure me that it was a flicker free ballast...I don't know about the silent mode, but I will remember it next time. Have you noticed the lag time when changing synchro and phase on the camera?
  21. 1st Assistant Camera ;) Find out what camera, and do tons of research asap. Focus, Exposure, Color Space, Gamma Curves, White Balance, Gain...etc. Spend some time on Wikipedia; also research this forum.
  22. Red lenses are not built well. Also, you will have to wait quite a while to actually receive this lens, since I know someone that has been waiting over a year to get one.
