  1. I'm sure you guys have heard about this all ready, as it's a few days old, but I didn't see anything on here about it. Anyways, here is the link: http://digg.com/d1nsSJ Apparently the film was sent to Rupert Murdoch's desk; the industry see's this as a big "f u". I guess that has been proven untrue; but who really knows. This is the most recent article I came across, where a Fox Exec says that the film wasn't finished, it was lacking a lot of key scenes and VFX work.... It's a shame that the movie was spoiled so early. Can't there be a way to figure out who's taking the films and releasing them? I can't imagine that there are many people physically touching the WP at this stage? Thoughts?
  2. Hasselblad has a digital back for their photography camera's. They cost a hell of a lot of money, but I've heard people were very happy with 25MP+ chips, and hasselblad glass :)
  3. Most of these camera's don't do high speed, or go over 60FPS. Look into red at 2k, si2K (slumdog was partially shot on this) and the ex3. Time to put your foot down and let the production know that they have to pay up for what they want. Yes that covnersation is hard, but I don't think it's worth shooting a feature on JVC or Canon cameras, unless your story was amazing and format didn't matter. :)
  4. That device looks cool, but it does seem awfully big. It's probably not a huge issue if your Data person has a laptop plus HDD's setup anyways. I've been hearing a bit about this device and I hope I get to work with one. It seems that they though a lot about what people need, on location and on set. Oh, and if you want more quality out of your uploads, check out www.vimeo.com
  5. ^^ I remember reading that the HVX looses resolution as you stop down. Anything above a 5.6 and it was quite a lot of information loss!
  6. You moved to LA, correct? Start meeting and making friends with everyone! And also, hit up the schools and try to work on some projects with graduate students, since they will be entering the workforce soon enough and can help introduce you to other working people.
  7. +1 You could always take a hit on your rate and get ultra primes. I dont think you understand how awesome those lenses are! Also, minimum focus is certainly important, But are you really going to have your characters on the edge of minimum focus at a t2/2.8? That's a whole bag of problems.
  8. -I'm new here...what are you calling about? (3rd new girl, 10th time telling them the story) -Oh THAT job....that was a really long time ago....We still haven't paid you?
  9. Hey man, I'm sure you know now that there are many steps that you missed before starting the shoot. I would suggest not to do another until you are ready, because no excuse is good enough for a soft shot, over and over again. That and the amount of pressure put on a 1st just normally is a lot to deal with. Match that with a camera that should still be in R&D, with a first timer, and it won't be an easy shoot. Make sure you prep before the shoot day, and always have a FF.
  10. This is yet another reason to shoot 4K for archival (as of right now), and to work in 2k for your final delivery method (if possible). MOst of the time 1080/720 will suffice. But then again, very few people I know have done film outs. Can we see samples once you've done the filmout?
  11. yep, that situation happened many a time. It's highly ironic that "producers" in the bay area want to spend the least amount of money on Insurance and ultimately get the highest deductible... Complex was $100 for 1million in General liability, with a $5k deductible... if you tried to file a claim, they would personally blacklist you. What kind of poop is that?
  12. I recently used the Redrock Matte box. 2 stages, swing away, nice construction. I'm looking for something comparable (if not that exact one), to go with a nice FF system. I'd ultimately like 3 stages, 6x6 Filters but also adapters for 4x4/4x4.56, swing away, and the ability to ride on 15/19mm rods. I know arri sells a 15/19mm adapter for it's FF, and I would love to own an Arri Matte box, but I think it's out of my price range. I'm open to suggestions and to hearing about new products! Also, a lot of my work is with the RED; most of the time it's zeiss superspeeds and Optars; but I want the coverage for Optimo zooms and lenses that big...know what I mean? I've been looking at This One from Arri, but $4,000 is pretty steep! Thanks Guys,
  13. You guys suck. I'm still sore ( :( ). I hate you all for not coming.
  14. Bear in mind that Complex did rent out insurance, but it was slightly illegal how they did it. I know people are still having trouble finding insurance at good rates... if you find something, let us know!
  15. I used this stuff recently on 2x 1200w HMI's. Worked great, did the trick. We also used 4 inch wide sheets of saran wrap to wrap around the 60amp bates connections. Very fast and efficient.
  16. OMG no way. I just used a red this weekend that had a shock absorber for the HDD, and ditche the whole cradle setup. The battery sat on the Vmount and on 19mm rails. We had the ET EVF bracket which is fantastic, I wouldn't do handheld with a nogra arm ever! The package also came with 2 mini BNC - BNC cables, which is awesome, and tons of spare cables for the EVF and LCD. 7 8GB CF cards and 2 Hard drives. Very good package. I can't imagine using all read parts, and actually I haven't ever used all red parts on a shoot. A lot of people I know are making their own parts.
  17. Can't wait for the new lineup of camera's with 1 trillion different configurations. That should put the grind on rental houses!
  18. I agree with everyone else's statements. Feel free to tell them your minimum salary requirements as well though. I would take it if you need the experience. Do the best possible job you can. Keep your mouth closed, and make friends. It will (should) ultimately pay off.
  19. I can see how that would be annoying.
  20. Sats; it's on like donkey kong. John and sats, sure bring some goodies. My gf is bringing a bunch of ladies (it's actually pretty hard to get dudes to come out...) so sats, wear a tux.
