the most common way i believe is "snot tape" or another not as common way but will work better in more extreme temperatures in clear nail polish.

when using any sort of diffustion (pro mist, whatever) you ussually change the levels of intensity depening upon what lens you are on, cause the longer lenses will magnify the diffusion and changes the intensity, blah blah blah. So my question is, when using nets on the back of the lens, what is the reccomended proccess of changing the levels of intensity if you are using a material such as pantyhose (fogal/dior)? Im sure I could do some tests to try things out, but I wanted to see if anyone had some reccomendations.

I think the manual says to go with the way of the core (like a P) because when the film loops around the core it is smoother in that direction than compared to the against the grain way. if you put the film in and bend it back then it will leave a crease and the film will not ride as smoothly as the way the manual says. Even though sound isnt an issue, when running the 435 at high speeds its better to have the film as smooth as possible.

Do any of you have any books that you would reccomend on lights? I dont mean actuall lighting techniques but technichal info and descriptions of various lights. I need to expand my technical knowledge of lighting and electric.

Do many "bigger name" DP's own their own cameras?

besides the cost of the HD stock does it cost more to telecine in that format? also I have final cut pro HD so if I rented a HD deck, could i just edit from home then use the EDL to make the HD master?

What are people's reccomendations when transfering 35mm when it is only going straight to dvd and prints are never going to be made from it? HD maybe, but then you have to be able to edit with the proper equiptment. any advise will help, cause I haven't had the opportunity to try different formats.

Anybody know if Clairmont has any 435's set up for 3perf movement to rent? Or anywhere else, maybe panavision?

thanks, yea, i know all of my arri cameras very well, but we have an elaine being donated to us for this next shoot so I want to know the basics before jumping in.

Anyone know how I can download or buy a manual for the Elaine? I've mainly used arri cameras, so I want to do a little studying for an upcoming shoot....

I was wondering if it is possible to change the saturation very much in the telecine proccess? Of course the best thing to do is do as much as possible when shooting, but is is possibe to alter saturation levels in the transfer? or is this just not reccomended at all?

Be careful about riding the aperture because if you change the stop to try and compensate for the exposure change, it defeats the whole effect of the time lapse. If you have a "normal" exposure for the day time, as it gets darker in the day you will want your image to get darker as well. So if you are constantly changing the iris, you will not get this effect.

I was taught at an arri camera assistants course the kimwipes and panchro cleaner is the way to go, and its seems to work well.

Hey does anyone know where i can buy Dior or Fogal black silk pantyhose that are used for the nets? i would like to find somewhere online or any store in the la area or something.

I just talked to my professor about this and he said that a good method for attaching the nets is to use clear nail polish. Has anybody ever used this technique?

do the nets in back of the lens cause a change in contrast?

One more quick question...When you're shooting anamorphic you dont have to change out the gate in the camera to a different size right? And you can still shoot on any 35mm stock?

I was wondering if it possible to shoot 2.4 anamorphic and use an arri camera body, like a bl4s or even a 435 or something. i know you would have to get anamorphic lenses and ground glass and what not but is it possile... if so what would one need to do it?
