  1. No, like most motion picture cameras you have to compensate. It's on your lightmeter if it has fps. Otherwise, I think it's a 180deg shutter. Compensate acoordingly.
  2. It's dead easy. Don't let the battery question steer you away from Scoopics. Two screws come out, the battery case opens up, you resaulder 10 AA NiCads or NIMH, your done. Also, there is an outlet for an external 12v source if you don't want to use the internal batts. Don't know about the older grey Scoopic, but I do know the M and MS 12.5-75mm Macro is Great! I've yet to have a problem with a scoopic. They shoot and shoot and shoot. Good luck
  3. I'd also shoot a test to see how the registration is at higher speeds. My K3 works great at 24fps, but gets unusable at over 30fps. Good luck.
  4. Come on Nathan, we know you hate them all. :-)
  5. Nothing wrong with a Bolex. Also consider a Canon Scoopic. Get the MS. I had two of them and they took nice pictures and always worked. I have a Krasnogorsk K-3 buried somewhere in the closet. Shot with it once out of the back of a open hatchback/windows of a VW on the freeway (110KM/hr) on 50D. Was expecting a gritty look. It came out looking like a Ford commercial. I've heard the lens being talked about as not so sharp, but for the $130 I paid for the Krassie, I was gob-smacked at the footage. Doesn't work so well at speeds ~30fps though, registration starts going wildly off. Then again, I have never had it serviced, ever, ever. So, I don't know if this is normal. Came across a Praktica 50mm lens from the family, more good footage. Aaand, a better/brighter/larger reflex viewfinder than any Bolex R16 I have ever looked through. There are better cameras out there for sure, but for ~$200, they're a hoot to use. Lots of choices for little money, depends how much you want to spend I guess. If you want to spend some money, get a Bolex EBM or EL, lots of room to grow in many ways. Cheers, DTF
  6. I understand the 9mm doesn't, I also understand the 12.5, 16, and 25mm do cover the S16 frame. Right/Wrong/Comments? (Is the 9mm worth using if I am transferring for a DI? Slight telecine cropping is ok, unless it basically leaves me with the coverage of the 12.5mm :-) Thanks! PS: If you're all as sick of reading my lens questions as I am getting of writing them, I really do apologise. I am looking for a set of primes to purchase (to travel with), but am on a rather limited budget. I sincerely appreciate the time people have taken to help me with this, and to answer my inquiries. Currently I have a mix of Canon and Schneider primes and Angenieux zooms, but wind up renting for anything of importance. Not looking to debate renting vs owning, I am looking to own for about a year, long enough that any loss in later selling the lenses would be much less than the cost of rentals.
  7. Wound up using the local Zeiss, but... Still interested in these lenses, possibly to buy. I was wondering the same thing about the CP Ultra-T's. i know those were japanese made, and same T stop. Did Kowa manufacture for CP? Thanks for the replys.
  8. Nothin? Nada? Really? Any third-hand accounts from your uncle? Someone must have used/seen these before. Any general thoughts on Kowa for cine?
  9. And, if you were bidding on that you probably received my email showing that it was a cut and paste ripoff of a camera for rent in Chicago. Try cutting and pasting some of these scam ads into Google, this is how I found that the ad was word for word off a Chicagoland camera rental house. I have successfully bought a few high value items off Ebay, and not all people with low feedback are scammers, though many are. Get a phone number and give the seller a call, find out who they are. Anyone who actually thought that particular item was legit needs their head examined. I reported the item to Ebay, so much for them cancelling it! Cheers and Be Careful. DT
  10. http://www.trewaudio.com/catalog/items/item398.htm NP1 to Canon 4 pin. Thinking of getting one for my ACL. Anyone have a better price somewhere?
  11. Hi, I have a chance to use some Cine Kowa T1.25 primes for a pretty good rate. Not close enough to me for tests. Wondering if anyone has used such lenses, if so, any opinions? Deciding between these and some older Zeiss speeds (for more $). Cheers!
  12. you'll be fine, that is what the camera is for. Cheers, Walt
  13. Hi, If you find someone who is willing to lend an SRIII, for a student film, and for free, please let us me know, I want to book it next! Sounds like a pretty tough request, and I doubt you will get anywhere with this. (Anyone wanna lend me their Porsche for free?) What are you up to in your student film that you couldn't do with a less expensive camera? Why an SRIII? No use for an SR or SRII? You might be able to get a really good deal on an older camera if you have someone experienced operating it. That said, good luck with your search, a freebie SRIII dry hire would be quite a coup. Ta, Walt
  14. Hello, I am currently assembling a second lens set, and have picked up a 50mm f1.4 Canon C-mount lens. It looks sooo nice, looks great, smooth action, nice coating. Haven't shot with it yet, wondering if anyone has any opinions on these lenses. Also, any help in dating this lens would also be appreciated. What I do know, these lenses are intended for 16mm (thus the name), it appears to be typical Canon quality, that is, very good. Anyone have any comments or experience with these lenses? Particularly interested in knowing if the 10mm and 13.5mm will cover S-16 on my ACL. Thanks, Walt

I'll let you know soon, I'm buying a set, should have them in about three months. Also, if anyone is interested in getting in on a group buy, please let me know and very soon. Cheers, Walter
  16. Hi Folks, Before I move this over to the classified section, looking for some insight here. My Cooke Speed Panchro 18mm f1.7 T2 will be sold as I need some extra dosh to put towards other kit requirements, and I'm only shooting S16 for the forseeable future. It is a beautiful, flawless piece of glass, in Arriflex Standard mount. If you were me, and wanted to get the maximum fair price for it, what would you be asking? Well that's a pretty straightforward question, no? (I suppose a little less than the $14K an 18mm S4 goes for :-) Cheers, Walt
